"Passin' Thoughts" for February 2001
By Roy Passin

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GEORGE (NO, NOT GEORGE W.) AND ABE. HAPPY VALENTINE TO ALL YOU LOVERS (ESPECIALLY SANDWICH LOVERS!!)

What can one say about February? They have consolidated George Washington's birthday and Honest Abe's

It has resulted in the pictures of George wearing a stove pipe hat and Abe saying I can not tell a lie.

"I chopped down the still that General Grant was getting his whiskey from and was darn sorry it wasn't a cherry tree."

Of course Valentine's Day shows up in February and what a delight that is.

I love Cupids as long as they don't flutter their wings at me. Chocolate hearts are great, and I remember the time I had a girl friend that I thought had a heart like a big box of chocolate and was sweet and mushy. Unfortunately, her heart turned out to be made from stone. (You thought hardhearted Hanna was tough!)

Some folks get deluded by emotions and are deeply in love and suddenly realize they have no other and the only thing they have is one bearing and demanding cat--and the cat bites.

I consider myself lucky, because I have a wonderful woman who is my wife. She must be delusional, because she thinks I am a rather decent chap. And my cat bites!

My personal cupid was myopic and shot me in the wrong part of my anatomy. Difficult sitting down after that.

Now if you Lovebirds don't want to go out to Roy's Place (which I can't understand why) and would like a private, candle light and wine dinner alone try the following:

Take a 3# tied boneless pork roast, give it a good rubbing down with Teriyaki, sprinkle with fresh ground pepper and a light touch of garlic -- (and ground cardamom seed, if you have it).

Cut deep slits in roast and press pitted prunes in all other. The prune pressing-in is better done before seasoning.

Pour white wine around it (or beer). Put uncovered in a pre-heated 335 oven and cook for about 2 hours basting with pan drippings occasionally. Then coat roast with sweet Marmalade for another 15 minutes.

Enjoy with a nice bottle of white wine and some Barry White music!
